Scientific and Environmental Research Institute (SERI)), Kolkata is an autonomous institution for teaching, research and consultancy in the areas of science and environment.

The Institute has the appropriate technology for the transfer of knowledge in the areas of science and environment in general and environmental engineering, impact assessment, pollution monitoring and control, systems analysis, wildlife conservation, environmental communication, ecological education and environmental laws, geoinformatics etc. in particular.

Education is more than memory training and more than informing a child or student about the past and its achievements. Those factors have their place, and the past must be understood and studied, for out of it must grow that which is new, its flower and its fruit. Education involves more than the investigation of a subject and the forming of subsequent conclusions leading to hypotheses which, in their own turn, lead to still more investigation and conclusions. Education is more than a sincere effort to fit a child or adult to be a good citizen, an intelligent parent. It has a far wider application than producing a human being who will be a commercial asset and not a commercial liability. Education has other objectives rather than rendering life enjoyable and so enabling men and women to achieve a culture which will permit them to participate with interest.

Scientific and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) is conducting Post Graduate and Research Based Courses (M.Phil, Ph.D, M.Tech- By Research) in the areas of Applied Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Geospatial technologies and Sciences through the different UGC recognized Universities. Apart from this SERI conducts different Job oriented Certificate, Diploma/ PG Diploma programmes in the field of environment and ecology, disaster management, organic farming, geoinformatics etc.
